Day one of the third Ashes Test has ended with England scoring 68-3 at the stumps in Leeds.

Joe Root (19) and Jonny Bairstow (1) will resume batting for England on day two.

Earlier, Australia were all-out for 263 runs in the first innings.

The Aussies struggled while batting first coping with the English bowling attack as David Warner was removed by Stuart Broad for the record 16th time in Test after just scoring four runs.

The trouble followed Australia as they keep on losing wickets in the first sessions. The Aussies were 85-4 in just 24.2 overs with all of their key batters gone.

However, Mitchell Marsh, who featured in his first Test of this Ashes series, was the difference for the Aussies as he scored an astonishing 118 off 118 courtesy of 21 boundaries.

In the process, the middle-order batter also formed a formidable 155-run partnership with Travis Head.

However, after Marsh’s removal the Aussies could not stand on their foot once again and keep on losing the wickets until they were all out for 263 runs in the first inning.

Chris Woakes, another bowler who was included in the English playing 11 for the first time in this series, took three important wickets including one of the centurion Marsh.

Mark Wood also marked his return to the English team with a five-wicket haul.

Wood — who was not included in the first two Tests' playing 11 — caused all the havoc for the Australian batters with his constant 150kmph+ deliveries.

There were three outstanding performers for both teams in total and all were playing their first Test of this series.

In all fairness, it would be right to say that day one belonged to the players who were marking their return.

Australia currently lead the series by 2-0 having won the first two Tests at Edgbaston and Lord’s Cricket Ground.
